This postcard is of Mission STS-51-A.

STS-51-A launched on November 8, 1984 and marked the first time a shuttle deployed two communications satellites, and retrieved from orbit two other communications satellites. The Canadian Anik D2 and Syncom IV-1 satellites were both successfully deployed by the crew of Discovery. Palapa B2 and Westar 6, meanwhile, had been deployed during the STS-41-B mission earlier in the year, but had been placed into improper orbits due to the malfunctioning of their kick motors (hence, the for sale signs); they were both safely recovered and returned to Earth during STS-51-A.

The sender writes that Voskhod 2 was a Soviet manned space mission March (18th-19th) 1965.  It established another milestone in space exploration when Alexey Leonov became the first person to leave the spacecraft in a specialized spacesuit to conduct a 12 minute 'Spacewalk'.

This is a reproduction postcard that is postmarked in 2015.

The Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) is an independent  spacesuit that provides environmental protection, mobility, life support, and communications for astronauts performing extra-vehicular activity (EVA) in Earth's orbit.

Edward White II Spacewalk, Gemini 4

A Walk In Space:
History was made on June 3, 1965, as Gemini 4 Astronaut Edward H. White II became the first American to exit from an orbiting spacecraft and engage in extravehicular activity high above the surface of the earth.  In this dramatic view, Astronaut White is shown floating weightless in space, attached to the Gemini Spacecraft only by a 25-foot umbilical line.  The Winter Park Telephone Company is pleased to feature the aerospace industry on the cover of our Telephone Directory for 1965-1966.

Bruce McCandless II (born June 8, 1937) is a former naval aviator with the United States Navy and NASA astronaut.

This famous image shows McCandless using the MMU (Manned Maneuvering Unit) during STS-41-B in 1984.
Challenger launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on February 3, 1984. 

Hubble Telescope Space Walk

Astronauts install a Fine Guidance Sensor (FGS) into a protective enclosure in the Shuttle's payload bay.  These two astronauts performed the second of three space walks to service the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) on the STS-103 mission.
